about us

Sisters Riverine  comes from the mouths of two women whose inclinations to farm brought forth a shared love of song. Meeting on Cortes Island in late February 2011, time steeped repertoire in the kitchen, on the fields, in the woods and of the wilds, anchoring the beginning with a certain sense of place. Having the opportunity to grow upon the island spurned a desire to sing back to that which gave to us: the community of living beings who held our learning. Would it be that you join this community who hold our song? Allow us to gather you in so that we may winter warmer together.

Emily Adam and Andrea Vargas carry tunes from appalachian, sacred harp and folk traditions. Their vocal robustness meets tender subtleties and is tempered with flexible surprise.

Thereafter’s reply that their music is ‘prog-trad’ is part self-deprecation, part guilty pleasure. They are open to exploring anything with their roots instrument base, anything, that is, except for a concept album, what with punk having happened.

With flute, fiddle, cello, cajon and guitar and members from the celtic, jazz and classical traditions, Thereafter are able to range far and wide in their exploration of world music and the vivid arrangements of their original songs and instrumentals.

Born into a musical family steeped in the tradition of New Orleans jazz, Arnt and Evan Arntzen, play hot and sweet music for dancers and listeners alike. Together, they are Brother's Arntzen.
